thank you to the true heroes

Do you know what a hero is? Dictionary definition is:

~~ a man or woman distinguished by exceptional courage and nobility and strength
~~ someone who fights for a cause

Exceptional courage. Fights for a cause.

A hero.

Do you know what a veteran is? Dictionary definition is:

~~ a serviceman who has seen considerable active service.
~~ a person who has served in the armed forces
~~ an experienced person who has been through many battles; someone who has given long service
~~ seasoned: rendered competent through trial and experience.

A person who has served in the armed forces. A person who has been through battles.

A veteran.

Sadly, when most people are asked "What kind of person is a hero?" you will hear some football players name, or a rockstar, or sicker still, a bloated, overpayed, shit-filled big mouthed actor and even worse, the current president.

None of these people ever put their lives on the line for their country. The football player gets payed millions to play a game. The rockstar gets payed millions to play a guitar and get drunk. An actor gets payed millions to look like a fool. Obama gets payed hundreds of thousands to take vacations and talk out both sides of his mouth.

NONE OF THESE PEOPLE HAVE CLUE *ONE* WHAT IT MEANS TO PUT THEIR LIVES ON THE LINE FOR OTHERS THEY WILL NEVER MEET!

Below are pictures of what heros and veterans look like.

My husband, Don, and his fellow soldiers during Desert Storm, Patriot Missile Systems.

My best friend, Naomi, a combat medic who served in Germany.

The hero to my daughters and myself.

My grandfather, Clarence Fredrick DeShane, WWI Veteran.

My father, Murrell Everett Fassett, Jr., Hercules/Nike/Patriot Missile Systems and Korea veteran.

These soldiers, protectors of the rights of all in this country, *including* the pricks who have the audacity to protest them, get payed *hundreds* of dollars to face the enemy, see and unseen, to keep this country free. Hundreds...not millions...to go to a serve a mostly ungrateful nation.

I am a proud military granddaughter, daughter, wife and friend. I am proud of the time I served in the armed forces. I am proud of my true heroes.

Today, take time to say "Thank you" to the man in the wheelchair with the Vietnam patches. Say "Thank you" to the woman greeting you at the door wearing her flag pin. Say "Thank you" to the young man or woman about to board a plane to a country thousands of miles away. Look around at your home, your car, your FREEDOM, and say "Thank you".

I know what a true hero is.

Do you?

Peace, Love and (thank you veterans, both here and gone) Zombies \IiiI

"Standing Ovation"

My brother, the Jarhead, is one of my heros. From Desert Storm, central America, and other places unnamed. Thank you to all the heros, past, present and future!

Excellent, excellent post. Wonderfully said and absolutely true. All the men in my family have military experience, and the women have supported them all the way. Thank you to the heroes and veterans--one in the same.
