The reason my husband brought me here after we got married and out of the military...or the biggest reason why anyone is here, is because of the auto industry. It literally makes the world go around. We left Texas because at the time Michigan had the job opportunites we needed to get on our feet and get moving. Now, Michigan is in a seemingly unrecoverable flat-spin, and we'd be better off in Texas. Although that thought makes me a bit happy, it doesn't, since this is where I live and breathe and am raising my family. Every day when Don goes to work I hope that he doesn't return with a little cardboard box. Yes, that's all they will let you leave with when they fire you: a cardboard box. Maybe it is to get you ready to live in one soon.
**Side question: Why does this kind of stuff always happen at the holidays? Never months before, never after, but always during?**
By the grace of God Don is still employed and we still have our bills paid, food on the table and a roof over our heads. He does, though, watch people he has worked with for 8, 9, 10 years, being "retired" and "downsized". (Remember how they "retired" the AI's in "Bladerunner"? That is all I can picture.) Every Sunday at church you hear of a new family that is now jobless and is asking for whatever help can be given. OCEF, an organization in Ortonville that helps families in need, has seen demand jump from 3 or 4 families a week to 10 to 12 famlies a week. That, my friends, is terrifying.
Humor break: Hey, maybe what all the radical Obamites say will be true, and he will pay all our bills and none of us will ever have to worry again and sun will shine out his arse. Come on...have some of you *seen* what these nutjobs are saying? It's funny and horribly sad at the same time. Not all Obama supporters, just the one who are wearing matching Nikes. (Humor, people, humor)
Anyhoo, suffice it to say that I hope that congress does the right thing and helps us out. After all, they helped out banking and places like WaMu and their uber-billion dollar blunders and hell, they are still advertising that they are the best at what they do lol.
On a lighter note, tonight my daughter and I are going to see the midnight premiere of "Twilight" in Lapeer. A group of us from our homeschool co-op are meeting at Applebee's then heading to the biggest movie occurance since Harry Potter. From what we heard on XM radio last night, it is completely *sold out* for the opening night/day showings. We got ours two weeks ago, we is smart that way :). This may be the last movie we go out to for a while, so we are going to enjoy it to the fullest!
There you go. Congress, if they don't help us out, will only serve to speed this country into the next Great Depression that much faster. If they do, then I guess you really can see the light of day from the opposite side of a sphincter muscle. I don't envy Obama at all when he takes over his duties as President. Here's hoping he really does believe in God... And:
