one call to miss

I love hearing when groups gather, hopefully peacefully and without nastiness and hatred of any kind from them or other surrounding them. Gathering to pray, bring hope, spread light, share a belief. It is, after all, what this country was built on, right? Every one, I shall repeat, EVERY ONE, has a right to believe and live their lives as they see fit. If something you say brings someone closer to what you believe then more power to you, but that should not be your goal. God and Goddess are big enough to bring others to them, so you need not go out of your way to do their works for them.

Don't know if anyone outside of Michigan has heard of this lovely little movement, but it will be taking place on 11-11-11 at Detroit's Ford Field. it is called "The Call". Fasting, prayer, thousands of Christians gathering to spread love and build bridges.

Or

not.

I took a look at their site after hearing about them again on the news, especially knowing that a church just a minute away from me has been a part of it. What I first read was wonderful. Stuff like:

"Amidst the greatest darkness, the greatest light can shine. We believe that Detroit's desperation can produce a prayer that can radically shift a nation."

Okay, I can go for that. They even loosely quote the Bible, Joel 2 to be exact:

"We must drop every barrier that divides us and unite in urgent, humble fasting and prayer with the promise that God will pour out his spirit."

Lovely, woo hoo, you go boy! Totally agree with you 100%!!

Then....I read this:

"We will gather to this city that has become a microcosm of our national crisis- economic collapse, racial tension, the rising tide of the Islamic movement, and the shedding of innocent blood out our children in the streets and of our unborn."

and this:

Stonewall Now
Join the resistance, release the captives

"We are calling the church to repent of our own broken marriages, moral compromise, and disobedience to biblical truth. We are praying for 100,000 gay and lesbian men and women to be saved and transformed by the love of Jesus. We are raising up a prayer movement to restrain the radical homosexual agenda that tears at the moral fabric of family and society."

I agree that we need to start remembering the sanctity of marriage, that even an unborn life has a right to survive, that racial tensions must be squashed and children saved from the violence it causes. But to "Join the resistance" against Homosexuality? The rising tide of the Islamic movement? Seriously?? Now, I don't agree with a lot of the Islamic belief system, but they have just as much of a right to theirs as we do ours. Gotta go save those poor little homos from their godless lives. After all, Jesus loves everyone, unless, of course, they are gay.

Know what? Don't pray for me. Don't pray for my family. Don't pray for my friends. Pray that God shows you how to love and how to truly break down those barriers that you are creating with your sermons of hate and exclusion.

My God, the creator of heaven and Earth, and his son, Jesus Christ, the true Savior, and the Goddess, the Mother of them all, loves ALL UNCONDITIONALLY.

Don't call me.

I won't answer.

Peace, Love and (we are sorry, but this number cannot be completed as dialed) Zombies \IiiI

*sigh*
The tides are turning but for those who refuse to be present in the here and now and see the world for it is, and isn't, those tides are rising as well.
Time will tell who was able to keep their heads above water.
