for today, the week of thanksgiving and i'm just saying...

For Today...
the week of Thanksgiving, 2009
`
Outside my Window...
cold, almost no leaves on the trees left. The sky is purple at the moment, so from where I am sitting, it is probably from cloudiness. Supposedly there will be some flurries on Friday. Meh.
`
I am thinking...
So much to do, so little time to do it, so few places to put things.
`
From the learning rooms...
I'll get back to you on that one.
`
I am thankful for...
My family
`
From the kitchen...
Coffee, Thanksgiving thoughts.
`
I am wearing...
Sweat pants, tshirt, tan sweater...see, no pink bathrobe today :).
`
I am reading...
Death of A Gentle Lady by M.C. Beaton
`
I am hoping...
the we can get through this holiday season without too much emotion. It stinks when you have finally "gotten used to" not having one parent, then another one leaves you.
`
I am creating...
something
`
I am hearing...
"The Suite Life" on t.v., Don discussing broken window software with people at work.
`
Around the house...
cleaning in general
`
One of my favorite things...
breathing
`
A Few Plans For The Rest Of The Week...
Surviving Thanksgiving, getting some Christmas shopping done.

Picture Thought For The Day:
A random pic I took in Wiley's backyard the morning I left El Paso. It was around 5 a.m. I miss being there so much.

*WARNING- You are entering an "I'm Just Saying" zone*

We had teacher conferences for Sierra and Savannah this past Thursday. Needless to say, I was beyond nervous to know exactly how the girls were doing, since this was their first year in public school. Their teachers had nothing but compliments, and even a few for me for teaching my children so well. Their teachers were the most impressed with their reading abilities, since they both said they had dealt with other homeschooled children who had very poor to no reading skills. That was one thing that always made me crazy about some, *not all* homeschoolers, the ones who actually live by the philosophy that "when their brain is ready, they will read" (had a parent *tell* me that). Mind boggling. They are the ones who give homeschoolers a "bad name" in the big wide world, for sake of a better way to say it, like the homeschooling family featured on "Wife Swap"...they made my blood curdle. God love them for their convictions, but, I just don't get it...I really don't. I'm just saying...

So, there you go. I done good :). Sierra is "a shining star in class", Savannah is "so willing to learn and try new things", and both are amazing readers. No bad mommy award for me today! Still, I do miss having them home, but *~*~*~YEA SIERRA AND SAVANNAH!!!*~*~*~

Most of the people who home school on Wife Swap don't teach anything. It's like they are too lazy or maybe uneducated to teach. It's sad. My hat's off to parents who home school and actually teach their kids something. My brother home schooled his friend's kids and they are two of the smartest kids I know. Public schools have gotten lazy. My 8 year old still writes some numbers and letters backward and they don't even correct it. I made a comment once and the teacher told me it was my job to correct. Really? I thought that is what she gets paid for.

I know a lot of homeschoolers, of course, and I don't want any of them to take offence at what I said. It is just my opinion that not teaching your children to read is poor parenting. "Wife Swap" just pisses me off in general, but it sure makes me feel like the Queen of Sheba lol.
