father's day

Good ole Father's Day. A time that is both joyous and sad for me.

My father, Murrell Everett Fassett, Jr., passed away over two years ago and it still stinks. Life wasn't easy with him by any means. He had a rotten childhood, and unfortunately, that rottenness (I know it isn't a word but it works lol) spilled over into my childhood, young adulthood and so on. I am still dealing with the grieving process. I could fill volumes with my bad memories, bad dreams and psychosis still left, but right now, I am trying to pay attention to the notebook full of the good memories and good times. Deep down, he was a good man, I know he was. Before he passed, it was slowly inching its way out. It hurts that that man never was able to come out before he was taken away from me.

This picture was taken two months before he suffered a massive stroke. I love him so much and miss him even more.

Now, what can I say about this bald-headed beauty lol? He is everything to me. Donald Richard White, Jr. is his name, and he is my husband, my soulmate, my lover, my best friend, and the father of my three gorgeous, rambunctious, lively, wonderful daughters. Our story makes people shake their heads, laugh, and question our sanity. We like it that way. He has been with me through, quite literally, hell, and pulled me, dragged me, screaming from the mouth of
blackness more than once. If anyone should qualify for sainthood, it is this man lol. He is a father, a GM employee, a pastor, a friend, a confidant, a 6'4 mass of solid heart. He looks like he could take on King Kong, but still cries at "Because Of Winn Dixie". I love him. And he loves me. That is the amazing part.

Last, but by absolutely no means least, I must mention John P. "Poppy" Bibona, my best friend Naomi's dad. I kind of got dropped into his family when Naomi and I became friends over 20 years ago. Whenever life fell apart as a teenager, I ended up at his house. Even now, I still do, but now I just go because I can :). He is an amazing man, talented, sweet, a spiffy dresser, smells good, and can recite one heck of a cow poem!

Happy Father's Day to all the dads, here and on the other side. Love to all.

I enjoyed reading about the men in your life.

Your husband sounds really incredible! Talk about finding your soulmate!

I'm glad you're reaching in your notebook and remembering the good things about your dad.

Thanks for the correction on Dainkee/Dague Fever....I made the typo correction.

Your Pal,
Mich.

I had a friend who contracted Dengue Fever while in China, so I wondered if that was what you were talking about. Until my friend had it, I thought it was just a sickness from the movies lol.
